After the death of Cardinal Mazarin (Prime Minister of King Louis XIV), the young king was convinced
by Colbert (Mazarin's private secretary) that Fouquet was the head of an anti-Royalist plot.
As a result the king had Fouquet arrested and he was imprisoned for life.
